Democracy, as sold to us, is a luxury—available mostly to the rich. Having stolen from everyone else, the wealthy have been quick to “govern the realm with laws”—not to protect the poor, but to secure their own position.  So when they say “all men are equal,” they are not really saying “You are equal to me.”What they are saying is more self-serving - this is what they’re saying: “We are equal to you—so don’t attack us. We may be wealthy, but look! Our blood is red like yours. We have dreams too.  Just because we are rich doesn’t mean we are superior.” It sounds noble. But it's a brilliant deflection.
